Season 5 of the Rolex SailGP 2025 Championship commenced in Dubai in November 2024, marking the beginning of an exhilarating series of high-speed sailing events that will span the globe for the next year. MarkSetBot is a proud partner of SailGP. Our Bots have been a part of the series since Season 1, supporting its growth with our cutting-edge technology that supports dynamic and sustainable racing. We’re looking forward to another season of flying boats, iconic cities, world-class athletes, and top-tier technology.
Expanded Fleet and New Teams
This season introduces an expanded fleet of 12 teams, including newcomers Brazil and Italy. The Mubadala Brazil SailGP Team, led by two-time Olympic champion Martine Grael, makes history with Grael becoming the first female driver in SailGP. The Red Bull Italy SailGP Team, helmed by Ruggero Tita, also joins the competition, adding to the international diversity of the league.
Innovations and Technological Advancements
SailGP continues to push the boundaries of sailing technology. In Auckland, the league introduced new high-speed titanium T-Foils to the F50 catamarans. These foils, constructed from machined titanium and carbon, reduce drag and are expected to lead to teams breaking existing speed records.
Season Calendar and New Venues
The 2024–25 season is the most expansive yet, featuring 14 events across iconic locations around the world. New venues include Auckland, Rio de Janeiro, Geneva, and Sassnitz, while the league returns to familiar waters with events in Sydney, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Portsmouth, Taranto, Cadiz, and more.
Major Partnerships
At the beginning of Season 5, Rolex expanded its long-term partnership with SailGP and the league welcomed the Swiss watchmaker onboard as the global racing championship’s first Title Partner. This landmark agreement unites two brands renowned for excellence, innovation, and high performance, and elevates sailing’s premier global championship.
Season Highlights and Looking Ahead
Season 5 kicked off with the Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix presented by P&O Marinas in November 2024, where New Zealand claimed victory in the challenging, shifty breeze, followed by Great Britain and the United States completing the podium.
The season’s second event was held in Auckland, New Zealand in January 2025. Australia mastered the big wind and new, high-speed T-Foils to claim a dominant win in Auckland with Spain and GBR rounding out the top three. Auckland was an incredible venue. Races were held right in the middle of the city on a tight racecourse with massive, sellout crowds. But this also posed a challenge due to the ferry traffic that traversed the race stadium. Dynamic MarkSetBots made the course possible, moving spectators and the race boundary in and out based on the ferry traffic.
As SailGP’s Season 5 continues to unfold, fans can anticipate a year-long spectacle of high-octane racing, technological innovations, and the thrill of competition across some of the world’s most stunning waterfronts.
Next up, the series travels to Sydney, Australia where teams will continue to compete for championship points. MarkSetBot will be on site with our dynamic race marks, streamlining logistics, reducing environmental impact, and delivering excellent course management—a perfect complement to SailGP’s commitment to innovation, excellence, and sustainability.
